Calvin is a senior lecturer in mathematics at the Queensland University of Technology, Australia and has been involved in mathematics education for 40 years. He is a teacher, lecturer, researcher, writer, public speaker, and workshop presenter. He has written over 600 books and articles, and speaks internationally on a regular basis. Calvin was a member of the Queensland Syllabus Advisory Committee and has advised other curriculum authorities on teaching mental computation. He is a co-author of the award-winning GO Maths series, a core mathematics program that received an Excellence in Education award from the Australian Publishers Association in 2005 and was short-listed for the same award in both 2007 and 2008.
