The last two years have created big gaps in the understanding and application of common fractions. Teachers need a structured plan for identifying these gaps so they can be closed. The key to this success is in the detail of the scope and sequence. What are the key concepts and skills and how are they linked? This session will address these questions and more.

James Burnett is the Co-founder and Executive Chair of ORIGO Education. He started the company because he is passionate about education and is continually striving to make mathematics meaningful, enjoyable and accessible for all students and their teachers. He has authored and contributed to more than 300 mathematics resources for teachers and students aged 5 to 12 and regularly speaks to audiences across Australia and North America. His most recent work is the writing of STEAM readers for Years 3-6 which includes coding and computational thinking.

Dr Calvin Irons has been involved in mathematics education for over 50 years as a primary teacher, university lecturer (QUT), researcher, writer/author (published by ORIGO Education), public speaker and workshop presenter. Calvin has conducted numerous professional development activities nationally and internationally. He is a prolific writer, having written nearly 700 books and articles. His books have won numerous publishing awards from organisations such as the Australian Publishing Association and the National Science Foundation (USA). His most recent work has been the development of curriculum materials in mathematics to develop computational thinking.
